Is Hismile legit?

Hismile is a real, large Australian oral care company, and its products ship. "Legit" is the easy part. The harder questions are what each product actually does to tooth colour, what the company's own studies and independent labs found, what the US court dockets show, and what people on Reddit report after using it.

Disclosure: Minvelle sells a remineralizing gum. It does not bleach teeth; its whitening claim is about surface stain, not a shade change. We are not a Hismile competitor on colour correction.

The short answer

Yes, Hismile is a legitimate company: an Australian business (Hismile Pty Ltd, Burleigh Waters, Queensland, per US court filings) that sells worldwide and publishes studies on its own products. Legit does not mean every product does what its name suggests. V34 is a purple colour corrector: Hismile's own trial showed about three shades lighter for up to 60 minutes, and an independent 2026 lab study found no difference from untreated teeth.

PAP+ is a peroxide-free whitener that removes surface stains; independent lab work found peroxide whitens further. Several US consumer suits were filed in 2024; the ones we checked ended in voluntary dismissal or a granted motion to dismiss. Reddit is split between people who like the flavours and people who feel the whitening was oversold.

People search "is Hismile legit" after seeing the ads, the purple serum videos and the novelty flavours. The question behind it is usually: will this actually make my teeth whiter, is it safe, and will I get my money's worth? This guide answers those in order, using primary sources: Hismile's own product pages and refund policy, the peer-reviewed studies on its products (including the ones written by its employees, with their conflict-of-interest statements), independent lab studies of the same product types, US federal court dockets, and Reddit threads we read and summarise with dates.

We do not use verdict words here. Where something is a claim, it is attributed. Where a lawsuit exists, we say what the docket shows and nothing more. All facts were checked on 26 September 2026 unless another date is given.

Part 1

Who is behind Hismile, and is it a real company?

Yes. The company appears in US federal court records under the names Hismile Pty Ltd and HiSmile, Inc., with Hismile Pty Ltd served at 225-229 Burleigh Connection Road, Burleigh Waters, Queensland, Australia, according to a summons entry in a 2024 California case (CourtListener docket 2:24-cv-01496). A related entity, Hismile IP Pty Ltd, has filed trademark suits in 2026 against sellers it accuses of infringing its marks, which is what brands with counterfeits tend to do.

Hismile also runs research. Two of the peer-reviewed studies discussed below list "Hismile, Burleigh" or the "Hismile Research Centre" as an author affiliation and state that authors are Hismile employees. That is normal for a consumer brand and worth knowing, because it tells you whose data you are reading.

So the basic legitimacy checks pass: a real company, a real address, real products, its own research, and legal action to protect its trademarks. The rest of this guide is about whether the products match the expectations the marketing creates.

Part 2

V34: what a colour corrector can and cannot do

V34 is the purple serum from the viral videos. Hismile describes it as working "exactly like concealer, but for your teeth" and says it is designed "to temporarily conceal the yellow tones in your teeth to reveal a perceivably whiter smile. The results are entirely on the tooth surface." That is an honest description of colour correction: purple sits opposite yellow on the colour wheel, so a thin purple film makes yellowish teeth look less yellow. Nothing is removed or bleached.

Hismile's own trial

A randomized, examiner-blind trial in 60 people (Pascolutti et al. 2024, PMID 39056984) compared V34 Colour Corrector Serum with a placebo lacking the dyes. One 30-second application produced an immediate three-shade improvement on a shade guide (26.2 percent), which held at 30 and 60 minutes; the placebo did not change shade. Yellowness (b*) was reduced for up to 60 minutes. The paper's conflict-of-interest statement says two authors are Hismile employees and one is a consultant to Hismile.

An independent lab test

A 2026 in vitro study in the Journal of Dentistry (Palandi et al. 2026, PMID 42603662) stained enamel samples with coffee, tea or saliva, then applied colour corrector serums from Hismile and another brand after brushing, and compared them with 15 percent carbamide peroxide and an untreated control. The serum protocols "showed no significant differences from" the untreated control at any time point measured (immediately, 24 hours and 7 days). Only the peroxide produced significant whitening that increased over time.

How to read the two together

They are measuring different things. The Hismile trial measured teeth in real mouths immediately and up to an hour after use, which is when the purple film is present. The lab study measured bovine enamel after a brushing-and-serum protocol, including at 24 hours and 7 days. Both are consistent with what Hismile itself says: a temporary optical effect that sits on the surface. If you want your teeth to look a bit less yellow for a photo or an evening, that is what V34 is for. If you want lasting whitening, it is not.

Part 3

PAP+: peroxide-free whitening, and its ceiling

Hismile's PAP+ range, including the strips, uses phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid (PAP) instead of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide. Hismile's product copy says PAP+ "oxidises tooth stains without releasing molecules known as free radicals" and that "there is no damage or erosion to the enamel".

The company's lab study

A 2021 laboratory study by the Hismile Research Centre (Pascolutti and de Oliveira 2021, PMID 34940045) tested a PAP+ gel against commercial peroxide gels. In their model, PAP+ did not erode enamel or reduce surface microhardness, unlike the peroxide gels, and six 10-minute treatments improved shade by about eight shade-guide steps on polyphenol-stained enamel. The authors state they are employees of the company connected to the product and that the in vitro work and statistics were carried out by independent parties.

Independent studies of PAP

Independent labs have looked at PAP as an ingredient. A 2023 study (Müller-Heupt et al. 2023, PMID 36768279) stained 60 human teeth with coffee and treated them with placebo, bromelain, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chlorite, PAP or hydrogen peroxide. All whitening gels changed colour more than placebo, and PAP caused no enamel surface changes, but the authors concluded that "the maximum effect achieved by all OTC bleaching agents was the removal of stains, whereas hydrogen peroxide was capable of further whitening the teeth." A 2026 study of a different brand's PAP gel (Jiménez-Díez et al. 2026, PMID 42061739) found it produced a bleaching effect from day 14, less than 10 percent carbamide peroxide, with no detectable enamel damage in either.

The fair summary: PAP-based products appear gentle on enamel in the lab and do remove surface stain. They do not reach the whitening ceiling of peroxide. If your teeth are yellow mainly from coffee and tea stain, PAP may be enough. If they are yellow from the inside, it will not change much.

Part 4

Tooth Armour and the mouthwash: what the pages say

Tooth Armour

Tooth Armour is a "toothpaste serum" that Hismile says is powered by "NH-10, a concentrated blend of 6 actives including Nano-Hydroxyapatite", together with hydrated silica, xylitol, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and zinc gluconate. You can add it to your toothpaste or use it alone. The product page we checked does not state how much nano-hydroxyapatite it contains. Its whitening line is qualified: "Helps maintain white teeth", with the footnote "Through mechanical action with regular brushing."

Nano-hydroxyapatite has real evidence as a toothpaste active. A double-blind 18-month trial in 189 adults (Paszynska et al. 2023, PMID 37533523) found a hydroxyapatite toothpaste not inferior to a 1,450 ppm fluoride toothpaste for caries. Those results belong to the formula tested, and without a stated concentration you cannot compare Tooth Armour with it. Our hydroxyapatite toothpaste guide lists which brands state their dose, and does hydroxyapatite whiten teeth covers the colour question.

iD Stain Whitening Mouthwash

The iD Stain mouthwash is described as "powered by hydrogen peroxide and essential oil actives" and as pulling debris "into visible clumps you can actually see in the sink." The same page says: "Visible residue is not guaranteed and depends on individual factors." We found no peer-reviewed study of this product. The clumps are a visual effect of the formula meeting debris and saliva; how much they reflect plaque removal is not something the page or any study we found quantifies.

Part 5

The court record: what the dockets show

Searching "is Hismile legit" often turns up talk of lawsuits. Here is what the US federal dockets on CourtListener show, checked 26 September 2026. We list case name, court, docket number, dates and the procedural outcome visible on the docket. We did not read the complaints in full, so we do not describe what the plaintiffs alleged beyond the docket categories, and allegations are not findings.

Case Court and number Filed What the docket shows
Ledesma v. HiSmile, Inc. N.D. California, 4:24-cv-03626 14 June 2024 Order granting HiSmile's motion to dismiss the second amended complaint for lack of jurisdiction, 28 April 2026; judgment 29 April 2026
Pasternak v. HiSmile, Inc. S.D. New York, 7:24-cv-04445 10 June 2024 Filed on behalf of plaintiffs and others similarly situated; stipulation of voluntary dismissal, 3 April 2025; terminated 4 April 2025
Jimenez v. HiSmile, Inc. C.D. California, 2:24-cv-04770 6 June 2024 Notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice; terminated 14 June 2024
Ponce v. Hismile Pty Ltd. C.D. California, 2:24-cv-01496 23 February 2024 Notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice, 25 October 2024
CAO Group, Inc. v. Hismile Pty Ltd. N.D. Illinois, 1:26-cv-11795 25 September 2026 Newly filed; open; we have not reviewed the complaint

Source: CourtListener dockets linked in the Sources list, checked 26 September 2026. The Ledesma, Pasternak and Jimenez dockets list nature-of-suit code 370; Ponce lists code 190 (contract).

What this does and does not tell you. A voluntary dismissal can follow a private settlement, a change of strategy or a decision not to pursue a claim; the docket does not say which. A dismissal for lack of jurisdiction is a procedural ruling about the court's power over the defendant, not a finding about the products. None of the dockets above shows a judgment against Hismile on the merits. Lawsuits against large consumer brands are common in the US, and the number of filings says little on its own; what matters is how they end, which is why we list the procedural outcome for each. Separately, Hismile IP Pty Ltd is the plaintiff in 2026 trademark cases in Wyoming (1:26-cv-00221) and New York (1:26-cv-03248).

Part 6

Refunds, pricing and bundles

Hismile's US refund policy says: "If you are not satisfied with the goods you have received, you can return them to us within 30 days of receipt, providing they are in original resalable condition", and asks customers with wrong or faulty items to email its help address. "Original resalable condition" in practice means unopened for most oral care products, so treat it as a return window rather than a try-it guarantee.

Prices on the US store are low per item, and bundles dominate the catalogue: buy-one-get-one serums, "Buy 2 Get 3 Free" strip bundles, value packs and a best-seller bundle. That is a pricing strategy, not a problem, but it means the cost of an actual whitening course depends heavily on which bundle you land on. Compare the per-treatment cost before checkout. The same logic applies to any whitening brand: a low sticker price on one item and a large bundle discount are designed to raise the basket, which is fine if you would use everything in it and wasteful if you would not.

Part 7

What Reddit says about Hismile

We read nine Reddit threads about Hismile from January 2022 to August 2026, in r/askdentists, r/DentalHygiene, r/beauty, r/NoStupidQuestions and the brand's own fan subreddit, r/Hismile. We summarise them in our own words, link each thread with its date and never quote usernames. Reddit skews toward strong experiences in both directions, so read this as a map of what people run into, not as evidence.

V34: "it looks whiter, then it rinses off"

The oldest thread we read, in r/askdentists (January 2022), asked whether V34 works. The first detailed reply explained the mechanism well: it does not whiten, it adds a pigment that counteracts yellow, like purple shampoo or bluing in laundry, and it wears off after rinsing. Later replies split. Several people said they saw no difference after weeks of use and one said they could not get a reply about a refund; others said it worked for them, especially if their teeth were already fairly white, and one said their teeth looked better after one use for about a week. A commenter also noted that the enamel-safety study behind PAP+ was written by two company employees.

A 2023 r/beauty post (November 2023) written as a warning about the brand's advertising drew the largest discussion. Many commenters reported no visible change from V34 and criticised adverts showing results before rinsing, and ads featuring branded flavours that were not on sale. Others defended the product as doing exactly what a daily colour corrector does, "slightly" lifting minor yellow, and said the ads overpromise but the product itself is fine. One person pointed out that Hismile's own wording says the effect comes from purple cancelling yellow, which, read carefully, is not a whitening claim. In r/DentalHygiene (December 2024), a user who could not get V34 to work asked whether they were applying it wrong; the one reply said it does not work.

Read next to the studies in Part 2, this is consistent: a temporary, surface-level colour effect that some people notice and many find underwhelming, with marketing that sets higher expectations than the fine print.

The flavoured toothpastes: the part fans love

The r/Hismile community exists mostly because of the toothpastes. In a 2025 thread (June 2025), a user with a mint intolerance explained that Hismile's non-mint flavours were one of the few options that worked for them, and others with mint allergies or sensory issues agreed. In the r/beauty thread, a parent said the flavours were what got their children brushing, and another user said the toothpastes made them excited to brush when they otherwise struggle with routine. A 2026 thread taking stock of the company (April 2026) repeated the point: for many buyers, the flavoured toothpaste is the only product they care about. One commenter there said their dentist had moved them to a different paste after continued cavities; another suggested alternating with a stannous fluoride paste for cavity-prone teeth.

That is a legitimate use case. A fluoride toothpaste that someone actually enjoys using twice a day beats a better formula left in the drawer. Our stannous vs sodium fluoride guide covers the stronger options for cavity-prone teeth.

Stock, bundles, subscriptions and delivery

The most consistent complaints are commercial, not dental. In the 2025 and 2026 fan threads (June 2025, April 2026), long-time buyers described flavours being hard to get outside Australia, limited releases tied to bundles, and a monthly club membership required for some flavours, which several people felt was aimed at new customers rather than keeping existing ones. Commenters in April and May 2026 reported that the European store had reduced its range and bundles, and that packaging was changing to a new tube.

A January 2026 thread (January 2026) started by a customer whose Black Friday order had not arrived a month later, with slow support replies, gathered others reporting similar delays or missing items. One commenter said they had raised the issue of ads showing products unavailable in the US and that a disclaimer about country availability was later added to ads; we could not verify that independently. A 2025 thread (September 2025) debated why newer US flavours were fluoride-free; commenters contradicted each other about the reasons, and one correctly pointed out that fluoride toothpaste remains legal to sell in the US.

The iD Stain mouthwash "gunk"

An August 2026 r/DentalHygiene post (August 2026) asked whether the brown clumps shown in iD Stain adverts are real debris or just the formula reacting in the sink. The only reply at the time we read it dismissed the product in one word. Hismile's own product page says visible residue "is not guaranteed"; no study we found measures what the clumps contain.

"Is it legit?"

In r/NoStupidQuestions (October 2023), a user sceptical of the whitening claims asked whether Hismile is legit. One reply said it is a legitimate brand, that the toothpaste and purple product worked for their household, and that the purple product works gradually and subtly, like purple shampoo. That captures the Reddit consensus fairly: a real brand with products people like, and whitening results that are modest compared with the adverts.

Part 8

If you buy Hismile: getting the most out of it

  • Keep a fluoride or hydroxyapatite toothpaste as your base. If you use a flavoured Hismile paste, check that it contains fluoride; some newer US flavours are fluoride-free.
  • Use V34 for occasions, not as a whitening course. The measured effect lasts up to an hour; apply before an event or a photo.
  • Judge PAP+ by photos in daylight before and after the full course, not by the mirror after one strip.
  • Stop if teeth become sensitive or gums get irritated, and ask your dentist.
  • Check the per-treatment cost of bundles before checkout, and remember returns need unopened, resalable products.
  • For a real shade change, compare peroxide options in our guide to whether whitening toothpaste works and ask a dentist.
Part 9

So, is Hismile legit? A decision checklist

  • You want a fun toothpaste your kids or you will actually use: the flavoured fluoride pastes are a legitimate choice; fluoride is the active that matters.
  • You want teeth to look less yellow for an event: V34 does what it says, temporarily.
  • You want lasting whitening: PAP products can lift surface stain; for real shade change, peroxide is stronger. Ask a dentist, especially if you have sensitivity or restorations.
  • You want enamel protection: look for a toothpaste that states its active and dose, fluoride or hydroxyapatite.
  • You care about paperwork: Hismile publishes studies, but its key ones are by employees; weigh them next to independent labs.

For wider context, see at-home vs professional whitening, do whitening strips work, LED whitening kits and whitening without damaging enamel.

Part 10

Where a gum fits, and where it does not

A remineralizing gum does not work like a colour corrector or a peroxide treatment. It does not bleach, it does not colour-correct, and the whitening on the box refers to surface stain and a smoother enamel surface, not a shade change from peroxide. What sugar-free gum can do after coffee or a meal is speed up saliva clearance, which may reduce how much new surface stain settles. That is a small, preventive role next to whatever you use for colour.

Hismile and Minvelle, side by side

Fact Hismile (range) Minvelle
Nano-HAp per tube or piece Tooth Armour contains nano-HAp; concentration not stated on the page 5.7 mg per 1.9 g piece, printed on the box
Active V34: colour-correcting dyes; PAP+: phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid; pastes: fluoride Nano-hydroxyapatite plus 817 mg xylitol per piece; fluoride-free
What is published Ingredient lists; peer-reviewed studies by Hismile employees for V34 and PAP+ Dose, full ingredient list, particle size and batch certificate; no clinical trial on the gum
Price and directions From $11 for a toothpaste; $29 for 7 PAP+ strip treatments €24.99 for 18 pieces, 1 piece a day, at least 20 minutes

Hismile is for people who want colour change, temporary or stain-level. Minvelle is for between brushings: a stated mineral dose, no bleaching; whitening = surface stain.

See the dose on the box →

Minvelle prints the dose on the box: 5.7 mg nano-hydroxyapatite per piece. See the gum.

What Minvelle cannot do

  • It does not replace brushing. A gum does not remove plaque the way a toothbrush and paste do.
  • It does not replace fluoride toothpaste. If your dentist has recommended fluoride, keep using it.
  • It does not repair a cavity. No gum and no toothpaste fills a hole in a tooth. That is a job for a dentist.
  • It does not bleach teeth. There is no peroxide in it; at most it helps with surface stains between brushings.
  • It has not been in a clinical trial. There is no clinical trial on the finished Minvelle gum. What we publish is the dose, the full ingredient list and a batch certificate from lab testing of the finished gum.

Questions, answered

The things people actually ask

Is Hismile a legit company?

Yes. Hismile Pty Ltd is an Australian company with a Queensland address in US court records, its own research team and trademark enforcement.

Does Hismile V34 actually work?

As a temporary colour corrector, yes: Hismile's trial showed about three shades lighter for up to 60 minutes. An independent lab study found no difference from untreated enamel after brushing, at 24 hours or 7 days. It does not bleach.

Does Hismile PAP+ whiten teeth?

It removes surface stains. Independent lab work found peroxide whitens further than PAP.

Is Hismile safe for enamel?

Lab studies of PAP, including Hismile's own, found no enamel erosion. V34 is a surface dye. Ask a dentist if you have sensitivity or restorations.

Has Hismile been sued?

Several US consumer suits were filed in 2024. The dockets we checked show voluntary dismissals and one granted motion to dismiss; a new case was filed on 25 September 2026.

Can I return Hismile products?

Within 30 days of receipt if in original resalable condition, per the US refund policy.

About the author

Max, Founder of Minvelle, builds an Austrian oral-care brand around one rule: publish the numbers, cite the sources, and say plainly what a product cannot do. He is not a dentist and does not play one online, which is why every article on this blog ends by pointing you to yours. The full formula behind Minvelle, every ingredient and dose, is public on the transparency page.

The answer in one line: Hismile is a legitimate company whose products do roughly what the fine print says: V34 is a temporary colour corrector, PAP+ lifts surface stain, the pastes are fluoride pastes; the 2024 US suits we checked ended without a merits judgment. All findings reflect the sources as checked on 26 September 2026.
